Serpentine Pavilion

Academic
with David Kipp

The structure sits at the site of the annually commissioned Serpentine Pavilion, but as a thermally separated building. The program is extended to two levels, sanitary facilities, and a roof deck. Its purpose is to act as a multifunctional event space.

The pavilion blends with its surroundings, with the roof not only defining the interior, but also continueing to the outside. The exterior shelter spaces invite for further explorations; the visitor gets drawn towards the building and experiences a variety of spatial qualities, narrow to open, without even entering. The deck offers spectacular views by its elevation without disrupting the characteristic silhouette which continues as an imaginary trace.
